SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Muskoka Seniors Magazine welcomes submissions from local professionals that specialize in senior health and well-being (i.e. nutritionists, pharmacists, doctors, etc), and from local seniors, families and caregivers of seniors, and community members with senior-related stories.
LOCAL PROFESSIONALS
Health and Lifestyle Columns: 600 words, and provide seniors with the opportunity for extended learning from you. They are informative and positive – provide helpful ways to support a healthy and active senior-related lifestyle.
Column styles open to professionals are regular article style or answers to common questions in your field (FAQ’s). And topics can include common issues relating to general physical or mind health, nutrition, stress etc.
LOCAL SENIORS, FAMILY AND CAREGIVERS OF SENIORS, LOCAL PUBLIC WITH SENIOR-RELATED STORIES
Humor Column: A Funny Thing Happened… 600 words about a funny story about something that happened to you, that may amuse your peers or give them a good laugh.
Nutrition: What Worked for Me… 600 words about a change in diet, food, supplement, etc, that helped you lose weight, feel better, or improve your health in some way.
Community Column: Around Muskoka… 600 words about community happenings that are relevant to seniors in some way, or something they may find interesting, informative or can be a part of.
Features: 800-1200 words, and are relatable and inspiring. You can share a life experience that may be helpful to a senior in a similar situation (i.e. by showing how you or someone you know overcame a challenging situation – rather than giving advice), or it can be entertaining. The style is personable, compassionate, and can be a little humorous, too – like talking to a good friend.
We welcome stories in a serious or comical theme, with the intent to inspire in some way. They are written in first person, and anecdotes and quotes can also be included.
Poems, recipes, puzzles, jokes and seasonal colouring pictures are welcomed, too.
Because of the volume of submissions, only queries that are accepted will be contacted. Unsolicited manuscripts will not be returned.
